Short Barren Rolled leaves
Short Plant with low primitive ear, sometimes crinkled, wilted, rolled leaves

Short Barren Rolled leaves
StBaRl*-N2549/+ mutant plant from the outcross on Mo17 showing proliferation of defective ears which failed to fill the respective husks. The clustering observed here is due to an unrelated phenomenon called "bearclaw" (by corn breeders) that occurs in some vigorous hybrids under especially good growing conditions, which did not help ear development of this mutant.

Short Barren Rolled leaves
Normal and mutant (left) open pollenated ears from progeny of cross of StBaRl*-N2549/+ on Mo17 showing mutant ear with small weak cob, irregular kernel placement and aborted kernels. This ear was produced on a small but vigorous plant and did not properly fill the husks which enclosed it.

Short Barren Rolled leaves
StBaRl*-N2549/+ heterozygous mutant plant from the outcross on A632 showing primitive ear with weak husks and silks attached at the 3rd leaf node. Another phenotypic expression of this mutant

Short Barren Rolled leaves
Progeny of the cross of StBaRl*-N2549/+ X mutant sib showing small plants with wrinkled, rolled leaves which may be homozygotes.
