shrunken

This is an old revision of the document!

shrunken Plump, transparent, especially sweet kernels at 20 days after pollination. Drying kernels collapse and become angular and brittle.

shrunken Plump, transparent, sweet kernels at 20 days after pollination. Drying kernels collapse and become angular and brittle. Selfed ear with aleurone color genes, segregating for sh2, shrunken and the closely linked anthocyaninless mutant a1.

shrunken Selfed colorless M2 origin ear segregating for su1-N86, (sh*-N86), sugary mutant kernels. Ear also segregating for o1 and o2, showing mutant interaction to also produce sh1 and sh2-like kernels.

shrunken Colored ear from the cross of +/sh*-N1898 x TB-10L showing colored shrunken hypoploid mutant endosperms, indicating location on chromosome 10L

shrunken selfed ear segregating for shrunken kernels; sucrose synthase-1 of endosperm. Note that dent corn tends to obscure sh1 expression.

shrunken Selfed ear segregating for brownish, pale "bronze" kernels; also slowing linkage of bz1 with sh1 in repulsion. Note bronze non-shrunken and purple shrunken crossovers.

shrunken multi-gene interaction: Selfed ear segregating for multiple aleurone and endosperm genes: pr1 (red/purple), R1 (solid anthocyanin/mottled/colorless), su1 (sugary/normal), y1 (white/yellow endosperm), sh1 (shrunken/normal kernel), and wx1 (waxy/normal), in an intense, in1, purple popcorn background. A demonstration of gene dosage, gene interaction, independent assortment, and linkage; phenotypes of seven genes clearly displayed all on one ear!
