Booster of anthocyanin Booster of sunlight requiring red pigment in exposed pl1 tissue and deep purple independent anthocyanin when the Pl1 allele is present.
MaizeGDB reference

Booster of anthocyanin Aleurone allele: Selfed ear of a B1:Peru/b1, R1/r1 plant showing 15:1 segregation for colorless aleurone (b1 b1 r1 r1) with some kernels showing r-mottling and others showing dilution effect of B1:Peru (originally designated R2 but is actually a duplicate factor with R1). Ear also segregating for pr1 (red aleurone) color.

Booster of anthocyanin Leaf sheath of a maturing B1/+, pl1/pl1 plant showing band of sunred (pl) pigment on older sheath tissue, above the previous night's still green emerging tissue, which will darken after sun exposure. Had the Pl1 allele been present the sheath would be solid dark purple.

Booster of anthocyanin Photo of B1, pl1/pl1 sun red plant. The outer husks were pulled back to expose green inner husks which were then covered for 5 days with an opaque mask with the cutout letters "SUN", showing that the occurrence of red pigment due to pl1 in husks, etc. requires B1 and sunlight for expression.
